At Fire on the Hill we empower organisations to develop and communicate their story. Together, we can help to shape a more advanced, more sustainable, more open, more truthful, and more equal world.

As part of this journey, As Per My Last Email… takes a look at what our teams, clients, and industry have been working on over the past few weeks.

Fire on the Hill unveils new Global Reputation Advisory practice

Character is about demonstrating integrity and positive intent

Fire on the Hill this month unveiled our new Global Reputation Advisory practice, designed to help partners articulate and operationalise their corporate character, align communication with consistent behaviour and build organisational confidence to take a position, or not, in contested environments.

By shifting the focus from defensive reputation management, organisations can build deeper trust, increase strategic freedom and create competitive advantage.

Christopher Clarke, Managing Partner at Fire on the Hill, explains: “Character is not about appearing flawless. It is about demonstrating integrity and positive intent.

“In a world where command and control is over, organisations with character, much like individuals, are granted greater license to experiment, to take a position, and even to make mistakes.”

Corporate Character: The New Frontier in Reputation

Organisational character is increasingly important in an era defined by political polarisation

We also unveiled our new white paper this month – Corporate Character: The New Frontier in Reputation.

Our research finds brands which build corporate character, rooted in honesty, integrity and consistent action, are significantly more likely to retain consumer and stakeholder loyalty, even when they make serious mistakes.

Thanks to PRmoment for taking a closer look.

The new transatlantic study - created in partnership with Mercury Analytics - reveals a decisive shift in how brand trust is built and sustained. While product quality remains foundational, consumers reward organisations that demonstrate a strong corporate character. They’re prepared to forgive those that respond to missteps with transparency and meaningful action.

As Christopher Clarke explains, organisational character is increasingly important in an era defined by political polarisation, social fragmentation and heightened reputational scrutiny. He argues communicators should focus on character instead of striving to build reputation if they are to foster organisational resilience.
