Resilience Conference brings defence industry to London

How is technology shaping the future of international conflict?

Fire on the Hill Founder, Nick Ward earlier this month joined the Resilience Media conference in London, hearing from a combination of defence tech start-ups, investors, primes, NATO and various government representatives about the role technology plays in a resilient and secure Europe.

What was on the agenda? Delegates learnt the war in Ukraine is the first example of a true ‘tech’ conflict, one where rapid innovation is critical, as adversaries adapt within two months in the field.

Much like other industries, software is ‘eating’ defence, while capital is rapidly forming around new innovations in defence - much of it from the private sector.

Congratulations to Resilience Media for hosting such a strong event – this is a topic area that is sure to be close to the headlines for the foreseeable future.

More on the event, here.

Creating opportunities for the next generation of communications professionals

Breaking into communications

In a busy month, Fire on the Hill Founder Sarah Mulder took part in a panel discussion on careers in the media for City St George’s, University of London. She spoke alongside distinguished industry figures in journalism, media recruitment and performance marketing: Quentin Webb, Aditya Dhunna, Betty Encinales and Renee Vakil.

It’s easy to forget how opaque different careers can be from the outside, particularly when starting out and trying to unravel what the options are. This was great opportunity to answer questions from the motivated students who joined.

Congratulations to the organisers Estanis Bouza and Ashley Bheeroo and all the speakers for an insightful discussion.

Fire on the Hill AI Digest – October 2025

Fire on the Hill looks back at the month in AI

With the launch of the Atlas web browser, ChatGPT-maker OpenAI is stepping directly into a domain long-held by Google, seeking to redefine how we search, browse and interact online.

Meanwhile, rapid advances in quantum computing could turbocharge the next generation of AI, pushing innovation even faster.

But as these technologies evolve, an important question remains - are we trading accuracy for acceleration?

Dive into these shifts and their wider implications in the October edition of the Fire on the Hill AI Digest.

Fire on the Hill Reputation Digest – October 2025

Fire on the Hill takes a look at the biggest reputation headlines from October

As ever, it has been a turbulent month for reputations in the spotlight.

The royal formerly known as Prince Andrew continues to cast a long shadow over the standing of the British establishment, as public scrutiny of his past shows no sign of fading.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift remains a headline magnet, commanding attention not just for her music but for the cultural power.

Elsewhere, in one of the more unexpected turns of the month, German equipment manufacturer Böcker Maschinenwerke found itself at the centre of intrigue after its products featured in the now-infamous Louvre heist – proving that reputation can hinge on the strangest twists of fate.

Explore these stories and more in the latest Fire on the Hill Reputation Digest from Rosie Ward - here.

Fire on the Hill Wellbeing Digest – October 2025

Can being told ‘no’ actually be good for us?

Advocates of rejection therapy suggest that seeking out rejection can build resilience, ease anxiety and make us more comfortable taking risks. Sometimes, “no” might be the key to confidence.

The Fire on the Hill Wellbeing Digest for October takes a look, while we also explore how viewing art can lower stress and inflammation, and why cultural experiences matter for workplace wellbeing.

Happy Halloween!

Spooky Season

Finally, Happy Halloween! There was a little creativity at the Fire on the Hill offices earlier in celebration of the spookiest day of the year!

Our team took a break from the usual routine to paint some scary looking pumpkins together - a fun, light-hearted way to get into the spirit of the season.

Sometimes the best team moments are the simplest ones.

Happy Halloween from all of us! 🎃 🎃 🎃
